Assistant professor of Spanish elected as GAWHE president

Dr. Rosaria Meek has been elected as president of the Georgia Association for Women in Higher Education (GAWHE) for the 2021-22 academic year. She is an assistant professor of Spanish on the University of North Georgia's Oconee Campus.

In March 2015, Dr. Rosaria Meek was introduced to the (GAWHE) and joined. Six years later, Meek has been elected as its president for the 2021-22 academic year.

Meek, assistant professor of Spanish at the University of North Georgia (果冻传媒), has served as a vice president for the past two years. She said the request to serve, though, came as a surprise.

"I was asked to serve for an organization that I truly believe in," she said.

Part of the , GAWHE is a volunteer-based nonprofit that focuses on the inclusivity of women in higher education. It is dedicated to providing professional support for female educators, administrators, and researchers in higher education in Georgia.

"GAWHE truly is a space for everyone," Meek said. "In the coming year, we are planning more programs, both virtual and in-person, to give women in higher education much-needed networking and professional development opportunities."
