For the 2025-26 academic year, ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has been named a  — a prestigious recognition awarded to universities whose commitment to engaged, experiential education sets them apart. This year’s designation also spotlights ¹û¶³´«Ã½’s strength in business, education, nursing, and affordability.

Colleges of Distinction evaluates institutions using its four distinctions — engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes. Their process goes beyond statistics, seeking universities that make a meaningful impact on students’ lives from the day they arrive to the day they graduate, and long after.

"¹û¶³´«Ã½ is preparing our students for what comes next," ¹û¶³´«Ã½ President Michael Shannon said. "They leave here ready to make an impact on their communities, our state and our nation. Our students gain unparalleled leadership training and real-world experience that prove they can do hard things. They graduate with the courage and skills to transform the trajectory of their families."

At ¹û¶³´«Ã½, this kind of preparation takes shape through high-impact practices like first-year seminars, collaborative research, study abroad, leadership experiences, internships, and community service. It’s all part of a personalized, purpose-driven approach that develops not only scholars, but leaders of character.

"We’ve never believed in ranking schools," Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction, said. Since 2000, Colleges of Distinction has recognized universities across the United States for their exceptional contributions to higher education. 

"This year’s recognition affirms what the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ community already knows: Our purpose drives preparation, and our graduates carry that forward into the world," Dr. Chaudron Gille, provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs, said.
